What this module does
The Cost Calculator shows visitors how much they can save — in money or in plastic waste — by switching from bottled water to a Culligan water dispenser. A slider lets them adjust the number of employees, and all values update in real time.
The module supports two calculation types (formulas) to suit different markets. Germany, the UK, and most markets show financial savings in the local currency. Italy, for example, focuses on plastic waste avoided rather than cost.
Calculator Formula
The Calculator Formula field determines what the calculator measures and how it formats the output.
| Formula | What it shows | Used by |
|---|---|---|
| Standard — Cost Savings | How much money employees save per year (or month) vs buying bottled water | Germany, UK, Poland, most markets |
| Plastic Savings | How many kg of single-use plastic are avoided per year | Italy (and markets where financial savings are not the primary message) |
Tip: After choosing a formula, only the relevant configuration fields appear below. Fields that don’t apply to your chosen formula are automatically hidden.
Bullet point tokens
Bullet point text fields accept plain text. You can also insert tokens — placeholder words surrounded by square brackets — and the calculator will replace them with live calculated values as the visitor moves the slider.
Standard formula tokens
| Token | What it outputs |
|---|---|
| [plastic_bottles] | Total number of 500 ml plastic bottles needed per year |
| [boxes_to_be_towed] | Total number of crates (calculated as bottles ÷ 12) |
| [plastic_bottles_price] | Total annual cost of buying bottled water |
| [dispencer_price] | Total annual cost of the Culligan system |
Example bullet point text
That is [plastic_bottles] bottles per year Which equals [plastic_kg_annual] kg of plastic avoided Equivalent to just [dispenser_bottles_annual] Culligan bottles
Tip: You can mix static text and tokens freely. Tokens are case-sensitive and must be typed exactly as shown, including the square brackets.
The math explained
Standard formula — how savings are calculated
The calculator compares two annual costs: what employees currently spend on bottled water versus what the Culligan system would cost. The difference is the saving.
Step 1 — Total water consumption per year:
Total litres = Employees × Litres per person per day × Working days
Step 2 — Bottles and crates per year:
Total bottles = Total litres ÷ 0.5 (one 500ml bottle per 0.5 litres)
Total crates = Total bottles ÷ 12
These are the values shown by the [plastic_bottles] and [boxes_to_be_towed] tokens.
Step 3 — Annual bottled water cost:
Bottled water cost = Total litres × Bottled water price per litre
Step 4 — Annual Culligan system cost:
Culligan cost = (Monthly device rent × 12)
+ (Monthly electricity × 12)
+ Yearly service cost
+ Yearly service material cost
+ (Total litres ÷ 1400 × CO₂ bottle cost)
+ (Employees × Litres per person per day × Device water price per litre)
This is the value shown by the [dispencer_price] token.
Step 5 — Annual saving:
Saving = Bottled water cost − Culligan system cost
If the payment period is set to Per month, the saving is divided by 12 before display.
Standard formula — worked example (Germany, 100 employees)
Using the default values:
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Employees | 100 |
| Litres per person per day | 1.5 |
| Working days per year | 220 |
| Bottled water price per litre | €0.45 |
| Monthly device rent | €39.90 |
| Monthly electricity | €3.00 |
| Device water price per litre | €0.008 |
| CO₂ 10kg bottle cost | €35.00 |
| Yearly service cost | €168.00 |
| Yearly service material | €168.00 |
Step 1 — Total water consumption:
100 × 1.5 × 220 = 33,000 litres/year
Step 2 — Bottles and crates:
Total bottles = 33,000 ÷ 0.5 = 66,000 bottles/year
Total crates = 66,000 ÷ 12 = 5,500 crates/year
Step 3 — Annual bottled water cost:
33,000 × €0.45 = €14,850/year
Step 4 — Annual Culligan system cost:
(€39.90 × 12) = €478.80 device rent
(€3.00 × 12) = €36.00 electricity
€168.00 service cost
€168.00 service material
(33,000 ÷ 1,400 × €35.00) = €825.00 CO₂
(100 × 1.5 × €0.008) = €1.20 device water
─────────────────────────────────────
Total Culligan cost = €1,677.00/year
Step 5 — Annual saving:
€14,850 − €1,677 = €13,173/year saved
The calculator rounds up to the nearest whole number, so the displayed value would be €13,173/year.
Plastic savings formula — how plastic is calculated
The calculator works out how many 500 ml plastic bottles employees would get through in a year, then converts that to kilograms of plastic.
Total plastic bottles needed per year:
Employees × Litres per person per day × Working days ÷ Bottle size in litres
Example for 100 employees in Italy: 100 × 1 × 250 ÷ 0.5 = 50,000 bottles
Kilograms of plastic avoided per year:
Total bottles × Bottle weight in grams ÷ 1000
Example: 50,000 × 12 ÷ 1000 = 600 kg
Kilograms of plastic avoided per month:
Annual kg ÷ 12
Equivalent Culligan 18.9L dispenser bottles:
Total plastic bottles ÷ Bottles per dispenser bottle
Example: 50,000 ÷ 38 = 1,316 Culligan bottles
